ON BASE Cross Country Skiing and Learn-to-Ski

Date depends on the snow
When there is enough snow on base, ODR will groom cross country ski tracks around Minuteman Village and along Perimeter Rd out to the heat plant. Also watch for free on-base Learn-to-Ski lessons and check out ODR’s over-night cross country ski rates.

Jack Rabbit-Easy Moonlight Snowshoe

Friday, Feb. 3, 5 pm to midnight
Enjoy moonlight sparkling on the snowy mountains on a leisure snowshoe hike. We’ll stop to roast marshmallows and make a toasted cheese sandwich.
Cost: $15 per person. Club Card 10% discount honored.

Jack Rabbit-Easy Family Snow Tubing

Saturday, Feb. 4, from noon to 7 pm
No lessons, no rentals, no lift ticket; just FUN! This is a great family fun opportunity in Montana’s winter wonderland. Enjoy roasting hotdogs and toasting a cheese sandwich (S’mores & marshmallows too!). Trip includes equipment, picnic, and transportation. Dress warmly in layers (especially your feet!).
Cost: $10 per person (15 and up), $5 per person (3 to 14). Club Card 10% discount honored.

Lynx-Moderate Moonlight Snowshoe in the Rockies

Saturday, Feb. 4, 2 to 11 pm
The Rocky Mountain Front provides outstanding beauty, especially when the snowy cliffs are bathed in moonlight. We’ll climb as the sun sets, then enjoy the mountains in the light of the full moon. Bring water, snacks and a dinner.

Lynx-Moderate Glacier Backcountry Winter Trip

Depart: Saturday, Feb. 11, at 7 am
Return: Sunday, Feb. 12, around 8 pm
Snowshoe or XC ski into Glacier’s backcountry where icefalls hang from snow covered peaks. Camping overnight enables us to go deeper and experience Glacier as few get the chance to. Fees include Winter Camping class, park entry, transportation, use of ski/snowshoes, and camping gear.

Easy Moderate Difficult Wing Ski Day I, Showdown Ski Resort

Thursday, Feb. 23, All day
Join your friends to ski at Showdown! You can get reduced rate equipment at Outdoor Recreation (free for E1-E4, half price rentals for all others). Military and dependents can ride the bus there and back for free. Don’t miss the fun! You may check out equipment starting Monday morning (avoid the rush). The bus (sign-up at ODR) departs Sun Plaza parking lot at 8 am.

Easy Moderate Difficult Wing Ski Day I, Cross Country Ski or Snowshoe

Thursday, Feb. 23, 10 am to 3 pm
Snowshoe or cross country ski on Wing Ski Day. ODR will have equipment at the trail head if you need it. There will also be instruction to get you going. Choose a beginner route with an instructor or a longer, more challenging route. Make a toasted cheese sandwich over the fire at the warming hut. Drive yourself or ride up with ODR (departs Sun Plaza Park’s parking lot at 8 am)

Lynx-Moderate Jack Rabbit-Easy Hot Springs, Cross Country Ski & Snowshoe at Lochsa Lodge

Depart: Friday, Feb. 24, 5 am
Return: Monday, Feb. 26, 8 pm

Hot spring dipping is a unique feature of this trip. There are 2 natural hot springs within 20 miles drive from Lochsa Lodge, Jerry Johnson and Weir. Both require a 1.5 mile ski/snowshoe from the highway. Cross country ski and snowshoe trails are popular in the area. Some are groomed with varying levels of difficulty and some are un-groomed backcountry trails that lead off the pass for those interested in backcountry snowshoe or ski experience. The Devoto Cedar Grove, near Lochsa Lodge is a 1 mile loop through a grove of 3,000 year old trees!
